The first restart After starting the firewall, it will take a minute or so to get to a place where you can interact with the system. You'll see the hardware identification process again that you first saw during install, but instead of an installation manu, you'll get a prompt:
login:
The system asks you to identify yourself. Type "root" and hit enter.Root is the user name you are using to identify yourself to the system. Root is the most powerful user account in any unix system, and the same is true for your firewall, so the first thing you want to do after this is change the password for the 'root' account. Type passwd and hit enter. You'll be asked for a new password. Take one that is easy to remember, but difficult to guess. A reasonable good password is to take a word you can remember, and change one or two letters to uppercase, add a digit in a random position, and change one vowel to another. To check if the firewall can reach the outside world, type: ping www.dubbele.com If you see something like this: 64 bytes from www.dubbele.com: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=1.022 ms 64 bytes from www.dubbele.com: icmp_seq=1 ttl=255 time=1.307 ms that means the firewall is succesfully sending network packets to this web site. Hit CNTRL-C, and type logout. It is now time to configure your home computer.
